FLORIDA ST. SEMINOLES

Florida St. Seminoles

Florida St. Seminoles VS. The Citadel Bulldogs

The Citadel (2-2) at Florida State (1-3)

GAME NOTES: The Florida State Seminoles return home after a fruitless trip to the New England area, as they play host to the Citadel Bulldogs at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on Tuesday.

Leonard Hamilton's Seminoles have struggled out of the gate with losses in three of their first four games. Florida State returns to the Sunshine State after dropping a pair of games over the weekend at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Classic. The team was routed by Providence on Saturday (80-54) and then fell to Massachusetts (75-69) on Sunday.

Chuck Driesell's Bulldogs have split their first four games this season. The team opened 2014-15 with back-to-back losses to VMI (66-65) and Air Force (68-55), but evened its record up with consecutive wins over Toccoa Falls (71-58) and Bob Jones University (81-50).

Florida State holds a 5-4 series advantage against the Citadel and has won the last four meetings, including a 77-51 decision in the last matchup in 1999.

The Bulldogs erupted for a season-high 81 points on Saturday, but the level of competition has to be taken into consideration, as Bob Jones University isn't exactly a powerhouse Division I program. Still, the Citadel shot just under 50 percent from the floor and forced Bob Jones into 21 turnovers in the lopsided affair. P.J. Horgan led the way with his fourth career double-double, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Marshall Harris III and Ashton Moore were effective as well, tacking on 17 and 16 points, respectively.

The Citadel has shot an efficient .464 from the floor on the season, although that number would be better if not for the team's struggles from behind the arc (.299). Moore leads the team with 17.5 ppg, although his scoring is volume driven, with 70 field goal attempts over the first four games. Horgan has been much more reliable in the frontcourt, connecting on almost 63 percent from the floor, while averaging 15.0 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per contest.

UMass hit its free throws down the stretch, and held off the Seminoles on Sunday in Uncasville, CT. Florida State once again struggled offensively in the loss, converting just 37.9 percent from the floor, including missing all seven of its 3-point attempts. The loss spoiled a strong outing from Xavier Mayes-Rathan, who went 8-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-12 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 22 points. Boris Bojanovsky was strong in the paint, pouring in 18 points in 22 minutes of work off the bench. However, the team didn't get much help elsewhere, as the rest of the roster combined for just 29 total points.

The Seminoles need to find an offensive identity in a hurry if they are to be competitive in the ACC this year. They should be able to take a step in the right direction against the Citadel, which has shown itself a little vulnerable this year.
