Florida St. Seminoles VS. Northeastern Huskies

Northeastern (1-0) at Florida State (1-0)

GAME NOTES: The Florida State Seminoles will close out a season-opening two- game homestand at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Tuesday night, as they square off against the Northeastern Huskies as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

Northeastern opened its season on Sunday afternoon in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tripleheader at the TD Garden in Boston and managed to topple cross-town rival Boston University, 71-65. The Huskies improved to 5-4 in season openers under coach Bill Coen.

As for FSU, it tipped off the new season on Saturday afternoon in the first part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic and defeated Manhattan, 81-66. The Seminoles are trying to win their 10th straight non- conference home game.

The teams met up for the first time in last season's Puerto Rico Tip-Off, with FSU coming away with a 62-60 victory.

The Huskies appeared on their way to an 0-1 start to the season as they trailed BU by double-digits early in the second half, but after shooting just 34.5 percent from the field in the opening stanza, they improved to a red-hot 56 percent after the break to surge ahead for the seven-point victory. Spearheading the comeback effort was David Walker, who finished with a game- high 23 points thanks in large part to his excellent showing from 3-point range (6-of-10). Quincy Ford added 11 points, Scott Eatherton was a factor in the paint with eight points and 10 rebounds, and T.J. Williams made an impact across the stat sheet with seven points, nine boards, eight assists, three steals and a block.

FSU also had some trouble early in its first game, as it found itself down by 10 midway through the first half, but a hot finish to the frame put it ahead by six at intermission and it continued that trend after the break to cruise to the 15-point victory. Despite a poor effort from 3-point range (3-of-9) and an uncharacteristic 21 turnovers, the Seminoles still shot an outstanding 57.5 percent from the field, made 32-of-44 free throws and held Manhattan to a mere 28.6 percent field goal shooting. Six players finished in double figures, paced by Aaron Thomas' 14. Jarquez Smith and Kiel Turpin netted 13 points apiece, Montay Brandon added 12 points and Devon Bookert tallied 11 points, five assists and five rebounds. In addition to all five starters putting up double digits, Robbie Berwick came off the bench to chip in 11 points.

The Seminoles enjoy their home cooking, having won 13 of their last 18 in Tallahassee, and that trend should continue against the Huskies.
