Tallahassee, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Thomas scored 14 points and led a group of six players in double-digit scoring figures as the Florida State Seminoles took down the Manhattan Jaspers, 81-66, in the first round of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Jarquez Smith and Kiel Turpin each chipped in with 13 points for Florida State (1-0), while Smith added six rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Montay Brandon contributed 12 points, and Devon Bookert and Robbie Berwick each scored 11 points in the win.

Shane Richards scored a game-high 17 points to lead Manhattan (0-1), but went just 3-of-12 shooting from 3-point distance. Ashton Pankey netted 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.

Florida State connected on 50 percent of its shot attempts in the first half, while Manhattan hit just 25.9 percent from the field as the Seminoles took a 37-31 lead at the half. Florida State made 15-of-20 from the free-throw line in the initial 20 minutes.

The Seminoles increased their shooting percentage to 65 in the second half, helping the team down the Jaspers at home.

Manhattan committed 21 turnovers in the loss compared to eight team assists. Florida State held a distinct 32-12 advantage in points in the paint, and a slim 20-16 edge in points off turnovers.
