Florida Atlantic Owls VS. East Carolina Pirates

East Carolina (4-3) at Florida Atlantic (2-3)

GAME NOTES: Hitting the road for a two-game stint, the East Carolina Pirates will clash with the Florida Atlantic Owls in a non-conference matchup at FAU Arena on Wednesday.

East Carolina has already experienced a turbulent schedule. The Pirates are 4-3 coming into this contest having won two of their last three games, which includes a 74-59 victory over Central Connecticut State in the most recent outing.

FAU put a stop to a two-game skid with a 54-43 win over Ave Maria on Sunday. The win gave the Owls just their second on the year, as they head into the game against ECU looking to get back to .500.

The two teams have met only twice before in their history, with each team taking a game on its respective home court. FAU won the most recent battle, 78-67, in Boca Raton last January.

East Carolina was on fire offensively in the team's 15-point victory over CCSU on Sunday. The Pirates connected on 59.6 percent shooting from the floor, and made 6-of-13 from 3-point range in the contest to help bury the Blue Devils. Michel Nzege scored a team-best 18 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the floor. Lance Tejada and B.J. Tyson each chipped in with 14 points for ECU, which as a unit dished out 20 assists. Tyson added six rebounds and four assists to his stat line in the contest.

Tyson, a 6-foot-3 freshman for the Pirates, enters the matchup against Florida Atlantic leading the team in scoring at 16.0 ppg. The freshman is connecting on 50.7 percent of his shot attempts from the floor, and is adding 4.9 rpg through seven contests, though he hasn't started a single one. Caleb White adds 13.9 ppg, and Terry Whisnant rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Pirates with 12.6 ppg. Nzege and Michael Zangari each top the team in rebounding by bringing down 5.6 rpg apiece. As a unit, East Carolina is netting 74.9 ppg, and allowing just 66.7 ppg to opponents.

After losing back-to-back games, Florida Atlantic needed the game against Ave Maria to get back on track. The Owls held the visitors to just 34 percent shooting from the floor, including a 3-of-14 mark from 3-point range. FAU, on the other hand, connected on 42.6 percent of its shot tries in the game, making 9-of-28 from beyond the arc. Jackson Trapp was the only Owls player to score in double figures for his team, netting 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting (6-of-11 from 3-point distance). Justin Raffington netted nine points with a team-best six rebounds in the win.

Trapp enters the game against ECU as Florida Atlantic's leading scorer, netting 13.4 ppg on 46.8 percent shooting from the floor. The only other double-digit scorer on FAU's roster this season is Marquan Botley, who checks in with 12.2 ppg. Botley leads the team with 13 assists on the season, while the big man Raffington tops the squad with a 6.6 rpg average. The Owls as a team are scoring just 59.2 ppg, and are allowing 60.2 ppg to opponents who are shooting 41.9 percent from the field.

Florida Atlantic desperately needs to find more scoring, otherwise games coming up against some above-average non-conference teams could trip them up and set them back. East Carolina's offense should be too much for FAU to handle, even at home.
