Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Kaheem Ransom netted 18 points and went 4-of-5 from 3-point range to lead his Sam Houston State Bearkats to a 74-60 win over the Fairfield Stags in a non-conference tilt at Webster Bank Arena as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

DeMarcus Gatlin netted 14 points, and Michael Holyfield grabbed a team-best six rebounds for Sam Houston State (3-1).

Marcus Gilbert scored 14 points and went 4-of-7 from distance, while Tyler Nelson chipped in with 11 points for Fairfield (1-3).

Sam Houston State shot 42.3 percent from the floor in the first half, but only took a 35-33 lead into the intermission after Fairfield connected on 45.8 percent of its shots in the opening frame.

The Bearkats created some separation in the second half by shooting 65 percent from the field. The Stags dropped their shooting accuracy to 37.5 percent en route to the defeat.

Sam Houston State had a 14-7 edge in second-chance points after the Bearkats brought down 33 rebounds compared to Fairfield's 25 boards.
