Eastern Michigan Eagles VS. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks

Recap: Eastern Mich vs. Miami-Ohio

Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - A layup by Brandon Nazione in the final minute of overtime proved to be the difference as the Eastern Michigan Eagles slipped by the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 62-61, in the first round of the Mid- American Conference Tournament at the EMU Convocation Center.

Nazione finished the contest with eight points and seven rebounds, shooting 4- of-5 from the floor for the eight-seeded Eagles (20-12) as they survived the close call. Raven Lee accounted for 19 points before fouling out, followed by Anali Okoloji and Mike Talley with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Next up for the Eagles is a date with fifth-seeded Bowling Green in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday.

The ninth-seeded RedHawks (13-19) were paced by Willie Moore with 17 points, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 behind the 3-point line, while Zach McCormick tallied 12 points off the bench and Logan McLane came within a rebound of a double-double with his 10-point effort.

Miami shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the field in the first half and held the hosts to only 2-of-9 beyond the arc in the frame, but six turnovers by the RedHawks limited the visitors to just a four-point lead at the break, 33-29.

In the second half both sides had trouble finding the basket, with Eastern Michigan connecting on only nine field goals, including 2-of-10 beyond the arc, and Miami 7-of-21 from the floor.

With under nine minutes remaining in regulation the RedHawks owned what seemed to be a commanding 52-40 advantage, but from there the visitors were outscored 14-2 to close out the second half and headed to overtime, thanks to a 3- pointer by Lee with just over 10 seconds to play.

In the extra session Miami made only 1-of-6 shots from the floor and missed a pair of 3-pointers, allowing EMU to steal away the decision.
