Eastern Michigan Eagles VS. Longwood Lancers

Longwood (2-2) at Eastern Michigan (2-0)

GAME NOTES: The Eastern Michigan Eagles will attempt to finish off the EMU Showcase unscathed when they host the Longwood Lancers on Sunday afternoon.

Longwood's results in this three-day event have been uneven. The Lancers narrowly clipped UNC Greensboro in overtime on Friday (81-79), but fell to Youngstown State on Saturday (82-72). They are an even 2-2 this season, with an away test against George Washington next.

Eastern Michigan has had some fun this weekend, earning nearly identical victories over Youngstown State (71-62) and UNC Greensboro (70-62). Those triumphs have been tacked on to a 2-0 start for the Eagles, who host non- Division I squads Rochester and Marygrove next.

This will be the first-ever meeting between these two programs.

Longwood may have shot at a 54.4 percent clip against Youngstown State, but the game was decided at the free-throw line. While the Lancers only made 2- of-8 attempts at the charity stripe, the Penguins netted 19-of-31. A 39-26 deficit in rebounds did nothing to help Longwood's cause. Lotanna Nwogbo and Shaquille Johnson each scored 16 points to lead the team in defeat. Quincy Taylor had 14 points and seven assists as well.

Although they have a few losses on the ledger, Longwood can at least take pride in how balanced its scoring is. The Lancers have five different players averaging in double figures, led by Nwogbo (14.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg), who paces the team on the boards as well. Taylor (14 ppg) is second on the team in scoring, while Ryan Badowski (13.5 ppg) is the best threat from 3-point range, with 14 triples on the season. Johnson (12.8 ppg) can score, but his strength is play- making, with 14 assists already. Darrion Allen (12 ppg) lends his hand to the scoring effort as well.

EMU dominated UNCG in the first half, and then coasted to victory by shooting a high percentage after the break. The Spartans were limited to six field goals on 24 percent shooting during the first 20 minutes and the Eagles turned in a 56 percent shooting effort in the second frame. Raven Lee drilled four 3- pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points.

Lee has done well for himself offensively, scoring 19 points per game to lead the Eagles. He leads the team in turnovers as well (13), but he is shooting a scorching 60 percent from the floor. Karrington Ward (17.3 ppg, 10.3 rpg) is a double-double waiting to happen. He had another against UNCG, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, although he only shot 4-of-12 from the field. Anali Okoloji (10 ppg) is the third member of the team averaging in double figures, but Mike Talley was the only other to hit the mark against UNCG, netting 17 points off the bench.

With Lee and Ward playing at a high level, the Eagles have had no problem with the first two games of the weekend. That won't change on Sunday.
