Recap: East Carolina vs. Tulane

Greenville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Stark scored 22 points and Louis Dabney added 19, leading Tulane to a 67-59 victory over East Carolina in the American Athletic Conference opener for both schools on Wednesday.

Kajon Mack chipped in 10 points for the Green Wave (10-3, 1-0 AAC), who rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit and snapped a two-game slide. Both losses came against nationally opponents -- a 66-57 setback at Washington and an 82-57 rout at St. John's.

Paris Roberts-Campbell scored 14 points and Terry Whisnant finished with 12 for East Carolina (7-7, 0-1), which had a modest two-game win streak stopped.

The Pirates were in control early with a 24-10 lead after a triple by Roberts- Campbell with just over eight minutes left in the half, but managed just two more points before the intermission.

Dabney scored the next eight points and his jumper with just under three minutes left pulled the Green Wave even at 24-24. A free throw by Whisnant stemmed the tide, but only briefly.

Threes by Mack and Dabney gave Tulane the lead for good before another free throw by B.J. Tyson for East Carolina interrupted what proved to be a 25-2 run to close the half. Mack drilled another trey and Stark's layup in the closing seconds gave Tulane a 35-26 margin at the break.

East Carolina got as close as one three times during the second half, but never got over the hump. Dabney twice answered with jumpers to keep Tulane in front.

A bucket by Michel Nzege again pulled the Pirates within one at 54-53 with just over seven minutes left, but Stark hit two free throws and followed with a triple on the next trip to extend the Tulane lead to six.

The Pirates got only as close as three from there, as a three by Roberts- Campbell made it 61-58 with just over four minutes left. The Pirates managed only one free throw the rest of the way.
