Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Juwan Howard Jr. scored 22 points to help the Detroit Titans defeat the South Alabama Jaguars, 66-53, in a non- conference bout at Calihan Hall.

Along with scoring a third of the Titans' (2-2) points, Howard Jr. also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Anton Wilson scored 11 points and pulled six rebounds of his own. Matthew Grant also played well as he scored nine points, pulled in six rebounds and led his team in assists with five.

South Alabama (1-2) reserve Taishaun Johnson finished the game with a double- double, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tafari Whittingham, another Jaguar reserve, contributed 11 points and six rebounds in the loss.

The Titans held a 31-20 lead over the Jaguars after the first 20 minutes. Neither team shot well in the period, as Detroit shot 32.4 percent from the field and South Alabama hit on 25 percent. The Jaguars weren't helping their cause very much in the first half, turning the ball over 13 times.

Neither team improved by much in the second half, with the Jaguars shooting at a 37.1 percent clip compared to a 37 percent pace from Detroit. However, Detroit maintained its lead by sinking 12-of-13 shots from the free-throw line.

South Alabama had a 34-12 edge in bench scoring. Detroit had the advantage in second chance points (12-2).
