Recap: DePaul vs. Illinois State
Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Daishon Knight scored a game-high 25 points as the Illinois State Redbirds captured a 78-72 win over the DePaul Blue Demons in non-conference action at Allstate Arena.
Off the bench for the Redbirds (5-3), Mikyle McIntosh pitched in with 14 points and seven rebounds, while starter Reggie Lynch notched a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Blue Demons (6-3) were paced by Jamee Crockett with 22 points as he knocked down 4-of-7 behind the 3-point line. Tommy Hamilton registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, followed by Myke Henry and Billy Garrett with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Despite shooting only 37.5 percent from the field in the first half, Illinois State was able to move out to a slim 33-30 lead at the break over the Blue Demons. It helped that the Redbirds converted all six of their free-throw attempts in the period.
In the second half DePaul not only came back, it took a nine-point advantage with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, but the host was outscored at the charity stripe in the frame, 15-6, and that proved to be a crucial component for ISU.
In a game that featured five ties and nine lead changes, DePaul was charged with 18 turnovers and picked up only seven points from the reserves.
While DePaul leads the all-time series by a count of 21-5, the Redbirds have now won three straight over the Blue Demons.
