DePaul Blue Demons VS. Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown (10-5) at DePaul (9-8)

GAME NOTES: In an attempt to bounce back from an overtime loss, the Georgetown Hoyas will have to hit the road to take on the DePaul Blue Demons in a Big East Conference clash at Allstate Arena on Tuesday.

Georgetown had won two games in a row before a 60-57 overtime defeat at the hands of Providence set the Hoyas back. The Hoyas are 10-5 this season, but have yet to win a game on the road at 0-2.

DePaul has been up and down in 2014-15, having suffered through a six-game losing streak after a 6-1 record to start the season. The Blue Demons enter this clash at 9-8, with a 7-2 mark at home. DePaul recently lost on the road, 81-64, to Villanova.

Georgetown leads the all-time series against DePaul, 23-7. The Hoyas won 14 consecutive matchups against the Blue Demons from 1994-95 until last season, when the Blue Demons upset the Hoyas in the Big East Tournament, 60-56.

Georgetown and Providence battled back and forth for the better part of regulation before the final buzzer sounded in a tie. In the extra session, Providence connected on 60 percent of its field goal tries while Georgetown made only 28.6 percent, including 0-of-3 from 3-point range as the Friars went on to victory. Joshua Smith tallied a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, while D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 15 points of his own in the loss. Paul White came off the bench to score 11 points 11 points in the losing effort.

Georgetown enters Tuesday's clash owning one of the better scoring offenses in the Big East Conference, coming in at 71.8 ppg this season. The Hoyas are boosted by the strong play of Smith-Rivera, who leads the team at 14.3 ppg and 3.5 apg. Smith is the only other player for Georgetown who owns a double-digit point total at 12.9 ppg, also adding in a team-high in rebounding at 6.7 boards per outing. Mikael Hopkins isn't too far off the rebounding pace at 5.7 rpg, but Hopkins leads the squad in blocked shots with 31 on the year. The Hoyas are allowing opponents to score 64.8 ppg on just 39.1 percent shooting.

Overall, it was a genuinely rough night offensively for DePaul as the Blue Demons could only connect on 39.2 percent of their shots from the field in the defeat at one-loss Villanova. The Wildcats couldn't be stopped, as they made 53.6 percent of their attempts from the floor in the contest. Tommy Hamilton came off the bench to lead DePaul in scoring, netting 12 points with four rebounds. Darrick Wood also contributed 10 points in the losing effort, while three different players could only manage seven points apiece. On the bright side, the Blue Demons did connect on 18-of-21 from the free-throw line.

Four players for DePaul enter Tuesday's clash all averaging point totals within 1.2 ppg of each other. Myke Henry and Billy Garrett each lead the squad with 12.8 ppg, followed very closely by Hamilton's 12.3 ppg and Jamee Crockett's 11.6 ppg. As a unit, the Blue Demons are averaging 72.8 ppg this season - third in the Big East - but are also allowing 73.4 ppg, which is the worst mark in the conference. Hamilton averages a team-high 6.8 rpg with 19 blocked shots, while Garrett tops the squad with 64 assists on the season.

Georgetown shouldn't be too worried about DePaul, considering the team's recent success in Big East play over the years. But the Blue Demons have performed well at home, so they're a bit more dangerous than they once were. Still, with Smith-Rivera and Smith leading the charge, the Hoyas should be able to win on the road.

Predicted Outcome

Georgetown 68, DePaul 62
