Dayton Flyers VS. La Salle Explorers

GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers will try to increase their current six-game win streak to seven when they host the La Salle Explorers in Atlantic 10 Conference action at UD Arena on Wednesday night.

After dropping their first two conference games, the Explorers got their first league win on Saturday when they defeated George Washington, 63-50. The win bumped La Salle's conference record to 1-2 and overall record to 9-7.

The Flyers won their third league game this season with a 76-58 victory over the Fordham Rams on Saturday. It was also the Rams sixth consecutive win, putting their A-10 record at 3-0 and overall record at 13-2.

These teams are meeting for the 40th time in school history, with Dayton leading the series 25-14. These programs last met on Feb. 19, when the Flyers knocked off La Salle, 65-53.

The Explorers shot an impressive 48 percent from the field in the first half, and held a 33-19 lead going into halftime. At the defensive end, La Salle limited George Washington to a 38.1 shooting percentage in the closing period, and forced 20 turnovers throughout the game, which led to 20 points. The Explorers also outscored the Colonials in the paint, 24-12. La Salle's top contributors in the victory were Jordan Price (20 points), Cleon Roberts (15 points, six rebounds) and Steve Zack (11 rebounds).

Price is the leading scorer for La Salle as he averages 17.3 ppg, the second highest average in the A-10. Zack is the team's top rebounder with 8.6 rpg, the fifth highest average in the conference. Offensively, La Salle is scoring 65.1 ppg and shooting 43 percent from the field. The Explorers are holding opponents to 62.6 ppg and letting them connect on 42.6 percent of their field goal attempts. La Salle is in the green for the turnover margin (+1.06) and rebounding margin (+0.2).

Entering the second half tied at 25 against Fordham, the Flyers netted a phenomenal 84.2 percent of their shots in the final period, helping them pull away for the victory. Dayton only allowed Fordham to connect on 33.3 percent of their total shots and also out-rebounded the Rams, 32-26. Dyshawn Pierre (16 points, six rebounds) was one of five double-digit scorers for Dayton and he was joined by Scoochie Smith (15 points, four assists), Jordan Sibert (14 points), Kyle Davis (12 points) and Kendall Pollard (10 points).

Sibert leads the Flyers in scoring this season with 16 ppg, the ninth highest average in the A-10. Pierre is the team's second best scorer with 12.6 ppg. Devon Scott is Dayton's top rebounder with 7.4 rpg. Dayton has had solid offensive production this season with 70.1 ppg and a 46.7 shooting percentage (third in the A-10). Defensively, the Flyers are only allowing teams to score 59.5 ppg and connect on just 38.8 percent of their field goal tries (first in the A-10), including 28.9 percent of their 3-point shots (third in the A-10).

Dayton is playing great basketball this season and has won its last three games by double figures. La Salle doesn't have the firepower to compete with the Flyers.
