Recap: Creighton vs. South Dakota

Omaha, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Austin Chatman netted 24 points with eight assists, and went 14-of-16 from the free-throw line as the Creighton Bluejays survived a 91-88 double-overtime battle with the South Dakota Coyotes in non- conference play at CenturyLink Center.

James Milliken came off the bench to net 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting for Creighton (8-2), while Isaiah Zierden chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Tyler Larson scored 25 points with 10 rebounds to pace South Dakota (3-7). Tre Burnette also added a double-double of 24 points with 10 rebounds, and Brandon Bos contributed 23 points and 9-of-9 from the free-throw line in the loss.

South Dakota came out in the first half and shot just 37 percent from the floor, but still took a 28-25 lead into the intermission thanks to 32.1 percent shooting by Creighton.

In the second half, both teams connected on an even 50 percent of their attempts from the floor, but it was the Bluejays who made 13-of-16 from the free-throw line that allowed them to tie it up when the final buzzer sounded.

In the first overtime session, both squads netted 11 points to force a second extra period. The Coyotes found themselves down, but a key 3-pointer in the waning seconds allowed the team to knot it up.

It was Creighton that came away with it down the stretch thanks to some crucial Chatman free throws. The Bluejays outscored the Coyotes, 15-12, in the second overtime period for the win.

Creighton held a 26-19 advantage in made free throws in the contest, and also had a decisive edge in bench scoring, 54-7.
