Recap: Colorado State vs. Pacific
Anchorage, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 16 points from J.J. Avila, the Colorado State Rams downed the Pacific Tigers, 75-64, in the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center.
For the Rams (5-0), Daniel Bejarano added 14 points, Gian Clavell and Stanton Kidd each finished with 13 points and Joel De Ciman chipped in with 11 points. The Rams will play UC Santa Barbara game in the tournament championship on Saturday.
Dulani Robinson led all scorers with 26 points for the Tigers (3-3), while Alec Kobre added 14 points. The Tigers now face Mercer in the third-pace game.
Colorado State took control early, opening the game with a 16-3 run, as the Rams took a 43-26 advantage into halftime. The Rams shot a scorching 68.2 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Conversely, the Tigers struggled, hitting on just 33.3 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-12 from 3-point range.
In the second half, the Rams lost their shooting touch, making only 37.5 percent of their shots from the field, including 2-of-7 from beyond the arc. The Tigers improved to 46.2 percent shooting from the floor, including an impressive 9-of-14 from 3-point range. With their success from deep, the Tigers tried to get back into the game early in the second, opening the period on a 12-2 run and getting to within eight points on several occasions. The Rams were able to hold off the comeback bid, however.
The Rams finished with a 20-10 advantage in points in the paint. They also had the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Tigers, 33-29.
