Recap: Colorado State vs. Missouri State

Anchorage, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - J.J. Avila netted 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double as the Colorado State Rams outlasted the Missouri State Bears, 76-61, in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout at Alaska Airlines Center.

John Gillon came off the bench to score 20 points for Colorado State (4-0), which will move on to the next round of the tournament Friday. Joe De Ciman contributed 10 points in the win for the Rams.

Dorrian Williams scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Missouri State (2-2). Tyler McCullough chipped in 12 points with six rebounds, and Shawn Roundtree added 10 in the loss.

Colorado State shot just 30.8 percent from the floor in the first half, yet took a 29-19 lead into the intermission after hitting 10-of-12 from the free- throw line. Missouri State connected on 32 percent of its shot tries in the half.

The Rams opened things up in the second half thanks to 44.4 percent shooting from the field. The Bears hit on 41.9 percent of their attempts, but couldn't make up any ground.

Colorado held a significant advantage from the free-throw line, outscoring Missouri State 28-13 from the charity stripe.
