Robert Morris (1-3) at Chattanooga (1-3)
GAME NOTES: The first-ever meeting between the Robert Morris Colonials and the Mocs of Chattanooga Mocs is set to take place on Wednesday as the squads take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
The Mocs, who are playing host to this event, have lost three straight games since opening the campaign with a 110-53 thrashing of Hiwassee almost two weeks ago. Over the weekend, Chattanooga was tripped up by Tennessee Tech on the road, 69-67.
Meanwhile, the Colonials also have just one win in four opportunities. Their victory came against Bradley, 68-61, in Illinois a week ago but the excitement of that triumph was tempered by an 80-68 loss to Georgetown in the nation's capital Saturday.
The regional action of this event takes place at McKenzie Arena in Tennessee and both of these teams will be back in action on Thanksgiving as well, with opponents to be determined.
Robert Morris dug itself a considerable hole in the first half against the Hoyas, converting just seven field goals, including a disappointing 3-of-14 behind the 3-point line, en route to what would become a double-digit defeat on the road. Both Rodney Pryor and Lucky Jones knocked down four field goals, but the former ended up with 16 points as he missed only three shots from the floor and the latter 13 points on a mere 4-of-14.
Jones, who did add nine rebounds against Georgetown in an effort to offset four turnovers, leads the program with 5.8 rpg, but his aggressive play has also resulted in 14 fouls in four contests. Jones (11.5 ppg) has also been rather loose with the ball, subject to 16 turnovers against just five assists. Pryor and Marcquise Reed carry some of the load on offense with 14.0 and 12.0 ppg, respectively.
Tied at 65-65 with less than a minute to play, the Mocs let up a 3-pointer by Tennessee Tech's Torrance Rowe and that proved to be the game-winner as Chattanooga again failed to conquer a DI opponent. Greg Pryor managed to tally 12 points for the visitors on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor, followed by Tre' McLean with 11 points off the bench for a squad that hurt itself with 17 turnovers.
On a team that is producing 67.5 ppg, there is only one player scoring in double figures for the Mocs and that is Jones with his 11.5 ppg. As someone who forces the action, Jones has accounted for more than one-third of the team's 89 free-throw attempts, although he has converted at just a 66.7 percent clip. The team as a whole comes in at a very disappointing 60.7 percent at the charity stripe.
Neither one of these teams is going to set the world on fire, but being at home should at least five the Mocs some sense of comfort as they get after RMU early in the day.
