Little Rock, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Maxwell scored 24 points and Stephan Hicks added 22 for the Cal State Northridge Matadors as they topped the Samford Bulldogs, 79-72, in the Maui on the Mainland Invitational at the Jack Stephens Center.

Landon Drew chipped in 12 points and dished out nine assists for CSN (2-2).

Tyler Hood paced Samford (1-3) with 19 points. Brandon Roberts contributed 16 points and Christen Cunningham had 11.

CSN earned a 37-31 lead at halftime by shooting 55.6 percent from the floor, although it missed its three attempts from beyond the arc. Samford remained within striking distance, despite hitting on just 40 percent from the floor, as it nailed six triples.

Hicks scored 10 points in the second half as the Matadors shot a scorching 70.6 percent from the field to hold on for the victory.

CSN had a 38-28 scoring edge in the paint.
