Northridge, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephan Hicks scored a game-high 23 points as the Cal State Northridge Matadors captured a 72-65 win over the Montana State Bobcats in non-conference play at the Matadome.

Stephen Maxwell added 15 points and six rebounds for the Matadors (1-2) as they picked up their first win of the campaign.

The Bobcats (0-3) were led by Stephen Holm who tallied 20 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-12 behind the 3-point line. Marcus Colbert filled out his stat line with 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, while Michael Dison dropped in 11 points as the team remained winless.

CSUN shot an impressive 56.0 percent from the field in the first half, considerably better than the Bobcats who converted only 24.1 percent, en route to a 35-21 halftime advantage for the hosts.

In the second half Montana State elevated to 42.9 percent from the floor, but it was too little, too late for the Bobcats.

In addition to being outscored at the free-throw line by a 20-10 margin, MSU also hurt itself with 17 turnovers, which the Matadors traded in for 17 points.
