Recap: BYU vs. Santa Clara

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws hit the game-winning shot with 2.5 seconds to play as BYU topped Santa Clara 78-76 in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

With the game tied, BYU came out of the timeout and got the ball to Haws, who buried a jumper from the top of the free-throw line.

Santa Clara was unable to get off a shot before the final buzzer.

Haws finished the game with 30 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (24-8), who advanced to take on Portland in the semifinals on Monday. Kyle Collinsworth posted 15 points and eight boards.

Jared Brownridge scored 29 points, Brandon Clark added 23 and Denzel Johnson had 12 for the Broncos (14-18), who had defeated Loyola Marymount in the opening round on Friday.

It was a tie game at the start of the second half and stayed close for the first several minutes until BYU went on a 7-0 run with Anson Winder putting in a 3 for a 56-48 lead with 11 minutes to play.

A layup from Haws saw the Cougars holding a 67-59 lead with 7 1/2 minutes left, but five straight points from the Broncos cut the deficit to 69-67 with 5 1/2 minutes to play.

A Clark jumper with just under two minutes to play was followed by a Haws layup to make it a 76-71 contest.

A long 3 from Clark with just over a minute to play cut the score to 76-74, and Skyler Halford had the ball stolen by Brownridge, who raced down the court and put in a layup to tie the game with 28.2 seconds to play.
