BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES

Boston College Eagles

Boston College Eagles VS. Providence Friars

Providence (6-1) at Boston College (3-3)

GAME NOTES: The Providence Friars suffered their first loss of the season against top-ranked Kentucky last time out, and will try to bounce back versus the Boston College Eagles in a non-conference clash at Conte Forum on Friday.

Providence began the year at 6-0, easily defeating opponents like Navy (88-51) and Florida State (80-54). But the Friars were cut down a peg after they visited Lexington, where the Wildcats took them down, 58-38.

Boston College comes into this contest with a 3-3 overall record, having lost two of its last three outings. However, the Eagles are coming off a 79-61 victory over Marist at home, which started a six-game homestand for BC.

Boston College is Providence's third-most common opponent in history, as the teams have met 108 times on the floor. Providence holds the all-time series advantage, 59-49, which includes the most recent matchup between the sides in 2013, 82-78.

Typically an offensive-minded team, Providence was held to just 38 points in the loss to national power Kentucky. The Friars still were able to connect on 46.7 percent of their shots in the first half, as they only trailed Kentucky, 26-22, at the half. But the second period is where things went sour. The Friars hit on only 16.7 percent of their field goal tries, including a 1-of-6 mark from 3-point range. Tyler Harris and Carson Desrosiers each contributed 10 points to lead the team, while Kris Dunn dished out a team-best 10 assists.

LaDontae Henton was shut down by Kentucky, which held Providence's leading scorer to just three points in the contest. Henton now enters the game against BC averaging 21.3 ppg, and is second to Harris in rebounding at 5.4 boards per outing. Harris is the only other Friar to have a double-digit scoring average headed to Boston College, netting 13.1 ppg with a team-best 5.7 rpg mark. The 38 points scored against Kentucky significantly dropped Providence's average on the season, and now the Friars enter Chestnut Hill netting 69.0 ppg through seven contests.

Following losses to West Virginia and Dayton in back-to-back outings, Boston College desperately needed a win against Marist to get things back on track. The Eagles controlled the second half of the game, connecting on 46.2 percent of their shot tries to Marist's 40 percent. Aaron Brown led the Eagles in the game with 19 points, while Old Dominion transfer Dmitri Batten contributed 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.

Olivier Hanlan netted nine points and dished out nine assists in the win over the Red Foxes, and although he didn't reach double digits, he still leads the team in scoring at 16.2 ppg. His 24 assists are also a team best, as are his 15 steals. Brown is the only other player with a double-digit point average, netting 14.0 ppg through six starts. Dennis Clifford comes into Friday's matchup leading the team in rebounding at 5.5 boards per outing. As a unit, the Eagles are scoring 64.5 points per contest this season.

Providence should be angry coming into this meeting - not because of the loss to Kentucky, but because of the way the team performed in the second half that left them out of the contest. The Eagles are flying high, but will likely hit a wall when they discover the true scoring prowess of the Friars.
