Boston College Eagles VS. Louisville Cardinals

(10) Louisville (16-3) at Boston College (9-9)

GAME NOTES: The Boston College Eagles picked up their first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season on Sunday, but they'll have a tough mountain to climb to earn their second as they host the 10th-ranked Louisville Cardinals at Conte Forum on Wednesday.

It may be surprising to know that Louisville hasn't won back-to-back games since earlier in January. The Cardinals have suffered two of their three losses this season to ACC competition, and own a 4-2 mark in conference play. The Cards, though, are on the upswing after an 80-68 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Boston College took on Georgia Tech on Sunday - at the time another winless team in ACC play. The Eagles took down the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, 64-62, to improve to 1-5 in conference action. The win ended a two-game skid for the Eagles, who are 7-3 at home heading into Wednesday.

Boston College owns the brief series advantage over Louisville, 3-2. But the last time these brand new conference rivals met on the hardwood was back in the 1996-97 campaign - a double-overtime Louisville win.

After a devastating loss to Duke just days prior, Louisville turned the tables on Pittsburgh and pulled away from the Panthers late thanks to a blistering shooting performance. The Cardinals connected on 65.2 percent of their tries from the floor, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range. Terry Rozier kept up his hot play by leading Louisville in scoring in the win, netting 26 points with six assists and five rebounds. Montrezl Harrell added 18 points with seven boards, and Chris Jones chipped in with 17 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Mangok Mathiang came off the bench and rounded out a group of double-digit scorers for the Cards with 11 points.

It's been a sensational season for Rozier, who leads Louisville in scoring and ranks third in the ACC with 17.8 ppg. The guard has boosted his well-rounded stat line with 5.3 rpg and a team-best 40 steals. Harrell adds 15.1 ppg, and tops the Cardinals in rebounding at 9.1 boards per outing - third in the conference. Jones (12.6 ppg) and Wayne Blackshear (11.9 ppg) each add double- digit scoring for a Louisville team netting 73.0 ppg as a unit. The team's scoring defense has been wonderful as well, holding opponents to a mere 57.8 ppg on 37 percent shooting from the floor. The Cardinals are adept on the glass, bringing down 40.1 rpg as a unit.

Boston College was able to fend off a Georgia Tech run down the stretch on Sunday, as the two teams battled to achieve their first conference win of the season. It was the Eagles who came away victorious, thanks in large part to Olivier Hanlan, who scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Patrick Heckmann contributed 12 points to the winning cause, and Aaron Brown scored 11 for Boston College, which shot 46 percent from the field in the contest. The team's defense held the Yellow Jackets to a meager 38.2 percent shooting in the game.

Hanlan has picked up where he left off last season as Boston College's go-to scorer. Hanlan leads BC and ranks fifth in the conference averaging 16.8 ppg on 43 percent shooting from the floor. His 81 assists are also the most on the Eagles squad this season. Brown is the only other Eagle averaging a double- digit scoring total this season, netting 14.0 ppg. Boston College as a whole is scoring 64.6 ppg this season, and is allowing opponents to net 63.7 ppg on 42 percent shooting from the floor. Dennis Clifford leads the Eagles on the boards, grabbing 5.6 boards per outing. He'll have his hands full trying to keep the dominant Cardinals off the glass.

Louisville had to contend with a winter storm in the Northeast, but even that won't slow the Cardinals down as they prepare for Boston College. Louisville has the advantage over the Eagles in just about every way imaginable.

Predicted Outcome
