Boise St. Broncos VS. UNLV Runnin' Rebels

Recap: Boise State vs. UNLV

Boise, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Marks scored a game-high 28 points as the Boise State Broncos pulled away from the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in overtime, 82-73, in Mountain West Conference play at Taco Bell Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Broncos (11-6, 1-3 MWC), as they snapped a four-game slide, were Mikey Thompson and Nick Duncan with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while James Webb III registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Runnin' Rebels (10-7, 1-3) were led by Rashad Vaughn with 20 points and eight rebounds, followed by Patrick McCaw with 17 points in a reserve role. Cody Doolin and Christian Wood accounted for 12 points each, the latter also pulling down 10 boards and blocking three shots in the setback.

UNLV led by as many as six points in the first half, but the Broncos countered with 51.7 percent shooting from the field in the period in order to move out to a 38-30 advantage at the break.

The meeting tightened up in the second half as Marks tied the game at 68-68 with a fall away jumper, leaving 13.1 seconds on the clock. Instead of calling a timeout, the Rebels took the ball up the floor and settled for a long 3- pointer that missed the mark.

Vaughn put UNLV on top in overtime with a 3-pointer, but the Broncos then forced a series of turnovers and scored six in a row to assume a 74-71 advantage with just under two minutes remaining. Vaughn stopped the run momentarily with a couple of free throws before a layup and breakaway dunk pushed BSU to a 78-73 lead with 45 seconds remaining in overtime.

The Broncos, who forced six turnovers in overtime, then added a series of free throws in order to claim the nine-point victory at home.

UNLV, which turned the ball over a total of 15 times on the night, was outscored at the charity stripe, 17-8.

Last season the teams also went to overtime at Taco Bell Arena, with Marks scoring 13 points in the extra session to lead the Broncos to the 91-90 victory.
