Recap: Baylor vs. Texas A&M
Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnathan Motley led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds as the Baylor Bears easily defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 77-63, in a non-conference clash at the Ferrell Center.
Rico Gathers posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears (8-1), while Lester Medford and Taurean Prince each finished with 11 points while Al Freeman chipped in with 10 points.
For the Aggies (6-2), Kourtney Roberson and Alex Robinson each finished with 11 points while Alex Caruso dished out seven assists.
Baylor shot 44.4 percent from the field in the opening period, including 4- of-9 from beyond the arc, as the Bears used a 7-0 run late in the first to take a 36-29 lead into halftime. The Aggies made 40.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the first, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range.
In the final stanza, Baylor connected on 53.1 percent of its field goal tries, but that included missing all six of its shots from beyond the arc. Texas A&M was red-hot after intermission, draining 81.3 percent of its shots from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point distance. Despite that great shooting, the Aggies turned the ball over 10 times in the half and let the Bears pull down eight offensive rebounds, as the home team was able to get off twice as many shots as the visitors in the second half, 32-16. The Bears used a 17-5 run to put the Aggies away early in the half, as Baylor coasted to victory and snapped Texas A&M's five-game winning streak.
The Bears dominated the down low, outrebounding the Aggies, 36-17, and outscoring them in the paint, 50-28. Baylor also scored 18 second-chance points to none for Texas A&M.
