Missouri (7-7) at Auburn (8-6)
GAME NOTES: The Missouri Tigers are set for their first Southeastern Conference road trip on Saturday night as they pay a visit to Auburn Arena to tangle with the Auburn Tigers.
Missouri opened its league schedule at home against LSU on Thursday night and came away with a 74-67 victory in overtime. It marked the second straight victory for the Tigers after they had lost their previous three outings. Beginning with this contest, the Tigers will be on the road for three of their next four games.
Auburn was dealt a 64-52 loss at Vanderbilt in its SEC opener on Tuesday. That setback halted the Tigers' winning streak at five in a row. They will play three of their next four at home.
Missouri has won both prior meetings in the all-time series with Auburn.
Mizzou found itself trailing LSU at home by as many as 11 midway through the first half of Thursday's game. The Tigers managed to overcome that early deficit, and they had a chance to seal the victory in regulation, but LSU hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining to force overtime. However, Missouri held LSU without a point the final 2:44 of the game and outscored the visiting Tigers in overtime, 9-2.
Sophomore Johnathan Williams III (14.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg) led all scorers with 21 points in the victory to go along with 10 rebounds for his sixth career double-double. It marked Williams' ninth consecutive game with at least 15 points and eight boards. Wes Clark and Keith Shamburger joined him in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman Montaque Gill-Caesar, the team's second-leading scorer with 11.5 ppg, sat out with back spasms and his status is not clear for Saturday's game.
For Auburn, K.T. Harrell headlines a trio of double-digit scorers with 17.2 ppg and is shooting at a 42-percent clip from 3-point range (37-of-89). Antoine Mason is next in line with 15.5 ppg, while Cinmeon Bowers averages a double-double with 13.2 points and a conference-best 11.1 rebounds per tilt. However, Bowers' scoring average is double that of the team's No. 4 scorer, K.C. Ross-Miller (6.4 ppg), as the Tigers are shooting just 41 percent from the floor and 31 percent from the perimeter as a team.
They shot just 30.5 percent from the floor against Vanderbilt and were out- rebounded, 47-27. Mason finished with 16 points, although he was the only double-digit scorer for the Tigers.
Auburn had been reeling off wins despite a lack of balance on offense, and that finally caught up to the Tigers in their last game. Similarly, Missouri could struggle to score consistently in this matchup if Gill-Caesar is forced to miss his second straight game.
