Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Twymond Howard scored a team-high 23 points as the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin held off the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 75-73, in non-conference play at the Convocation Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Skyhawks (1-1) were Marshun Newell with 15 points and both DeVille Smith and Myles Taylor with 11 points, the latter also clearing a team-high nine rebounds.

The Red Wolves (0-1) were paced by Anthony Livingston with a game-high 26 points and nine boards in the team's season opener. Cameron Golden pitched in with 17 points and Sean Gardner 15 in the setback.

Arkansas State appeared to be well on its way to a victory as it led by 19 points late in the first half, after the team converted a sizzling 66.7 percent from the floor, including 3-of-4 behind the 3-point line in the frame. The defense for the Red Wolves held the visitors to just nine field goals in the frame, en route to a 39-23 advantage at the break.

However, in the second half the Skyhawks began to chip away, connecting on 56.7 percent from the field, and thanks to a 3-pointer by Newell at the 6:11 mark UTM broke a 61-61 tie and held on down the stretch.

In a game that featured three ties and six changes, ASU hurt itself with 16 turnovers and a mere four offensive rebounds.
