ARIZONA ST. SUN DEVILS

Arizona St. Sun Devils

Arizona St. Sun Devils VS. Harvard Crimson

Harvard (7-2) at Arizona State (7-5)

GAME NOTES: Following a gruesome loss to Virginia in their last outing, the Harvard Crimson will try to bounce back on the road as they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in a non-conference clash at Wells Fargo Arena.

Harvard had won six games in a row before an ugly 76-27 loss to the Cavaliers derailed the team's immediate chances of climbing back within the nation's Top-25. The Crimson are now 7-2 on the year and 1-1 away from home.

Arizona State has struggled a bit of late, though the team did finally put a stop to a two-game skid with a 93-54 crushing victory over Detroit just two days before Christmas. The Sun Devils are 7-5 on the season, and own a 7-1 mark at home.

These two teams have only met one other time on the court before this clash, with Arizona State owning the only decision. That contest was played back during the 1978 campaign, which resulted in an 81-77 overtime Sun Devils victory.

Chances are Harvard would like to forget its last game. The Crimson were routed in the first half alone, as the Cavaliers held them to 1-of-20 shooting from the floor in the first half. Harvard went into the locker room at the end of the first half down 39-8. Needless to say, the offensive effort for the Crimson wasn't up to par, as Corbin Miller led all Harvard players in scoring in the loss with eight points. Agunwa Okolie grabbed a team-best five rebounds against Virginia.

The 27-point effort against the Cavs didn't do wonders for Harvard's scoring average this season. The Crimson come into Tempe averaging 64.6 ppg, although the team has been strong on the defensive end by allowing 58.3 ppg to opponents. Wesley Saunders comes in as the only Harvard player netting a double-digit point total, averaging 18.3 ppg this season with a strong 6.4 rpg effort (he comes in at second on the glass behind Steve Moundou-Missi's 6.8 rpg mark).

Arizona State employed a little bit of defensive power in its last game against Detroit. The Sun Devils held the Titans to 30 percent shooting from the floor, while the home squad connected on 57.4 percent of its shots in the contest. Savon Goodman tallied a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds to pace ASU in both categories in the win. Shaquielle McKissic added 14 points in the win, and Gerry Blakes netted 13 points with five boards.

Scoring hasn't really been much of an issue for the Sun Devils, who come into the contest against Harvard netting 74.9 ppg on a very healthy 47.2 percent shooting touch from the floor. Goodman has only played in three games for ASU, but has given the Sun Devils a shot in the arm offensively by averaging 17.7 ppg in that span. Blakes is scoring 12.1 ppg this season, while Eric Jacobsen chips in 10.6 ppg with a 7.4 rpg average. McKissic, who has started all 12 games for Arizona State, contributes 10.5 ppg to round out the team's double- digit scorers.

Harvard needs to get more of a contribution from other scorers besides Saunders in order for the team to be successful. After the Crimson's last outing the team should just be focused on rebounding from such a poor effort in this road contest.

Predicted Outcome

Arizona State 73, Harvard 66
