ARIZONA ST. SUN DEVILS

Arizona St. Sun Devils

Arizona St. Sun Devils VS. Colorado Buffaloes

Colorado (9-7) at Arizona State (8-9)

GAME NOTES: Colorado tries to right itself on Saturday when it continues a desert trip with a Pac-12 matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils at Wells Fargo Arena.

Colorado lost its second straight game to a ranked opponent Thursday, falling to 10th-ranked Arizona, 68-54, to even its conference record at 2-2. The Buffalos also fell to 0-5 in true road games this season.

Arizona State, meanwhile, is the only winless team in Pac-12 play. With four straight conference losses, including a 76-59 shellacking at the hands of No, 8 Utah on Thursday, the Sun Devils are off to the school's worst conference start since beginning 0-14 in head coach Herb Sendek's first season in 2006-07.

Despite Thursday's setback, though, the Sun Devils have proven to be a tough out at home, as they are 16-2 in the past 18 games, 42-7 in the past 49 and 24-3 in the past 27 in Tempe.

These schools split two matchups a year ago with each winning on their home court. They have also split 10 all-time meetings.

Askia Booker was tremendous in defeat for Colorado on Thursday, pouring in a career-high 30 points for the Buffs, who were without their second and third leading scorers. Center Josh Scott (back spasms) and forward Xavier Johnson (sprained ankle) were both inactive and will be game-time decisions on Saturday.

Booker was a one-man show for Colorado, as he hit 11-of-17 from the field with 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. The rest of the Buffs went 10-for-32 and no other scorer was in double figures.

The Buffaloes don't usually put up gaudy offensive numbers, but they have been much more efficient this season overall, coming into this bout shooting a solid .450 from the floor. CU does hold a +3.5 rebounding margin, but has struggled with taking care of the basketball, averaging 13.1 turnovers per game and sporting a -2.0 turnover margin as a result. Offensively, the Buffs employ a three-pronged attack, starting with Booker's 16.4 ppg. Scott is the top playmaker in the frontcourt for Colorado, as the 6-10 junior is shooting .539 from the floor, while averaging 13.8 points and a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game. Johnson rounds out the potent trio with his 12.8 ppg.

ASU struggled offensively against Utah's well-oiled defense and was held under 60 points for the fifth straight time, as it shot only .393 from the field and .375 from three-point range overall. Gerry Blakes was the only player to reach double digits, as his 10 points led the way for the Sun Devils, while Savon Goodman dominated the boards, grabbing 10 for the night, while also posting nine points.

Continuing their selfless offense, though, the Sun Devils assisted on 13-of-22 field goals.

ASU found itself down 18 at the break and never mounted a challenge over the final 20 minutes. In fact, the Sun Devils endured a five-minute stretch that saw them shoot 1-for-9, as Utah rolled out to a 21-point lead and never looked back.

If any team needs a win it is Arizona State. The Sun Devils normally play well at home and match up well against a Colorado team that is also looking to rebound. The Tempe crowd could be the difference, though, as Arizona State gets off the Pac-12 schneid.

Predicted Outcome

Arizona State 68, Colorado 64
