Anchorage, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Travis Thompson finished with 28 points as the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves knocked off the Rice Owls, 65-54, in non- conference play during the Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Nicho Burgard contributed to the Seawolves' (2-4) scoring with 11 points. Brian McGill came close to a triple-double, as he scored nine points, dished out 10 assists and pulled in eight rebounds.

Andrew Drone netted 15 points and grabbed five boards for Rice (1-5) in the loss. Seth Gearhart had 12 points and four rebounds, while reserve Maurice Rivers netted 11 points and pulled in six boards.

After trailing the Owls by as many as 12 in the opening period, Alaska- Anchorage held a slim 35-32 lead going into halftime. The Seawolves shot 42.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-15 from beyond the arc. Thompson played well in the opening 20 minutes, accounting for 18 of his team's 35 points.

The game was tied at 44 with 8:42 left in the game. Alaska-Anchorage went on a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to pull away and eventually grab the victory. The Seawolves shot well from the foul line the second half, converting on 12-of-15.

Rice shot very poorly from the 3-point line, connecting on just four of its 24 attempts from beyond the arc (.167).
