Anchorage, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Eric Thompson netted 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Pacific Tigers held on to beat the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves, 71-62, in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout at Alaska Airlines Center.

T.J. Wallace contributed 16 points with nine rebounds of his own for Pacific (3-2). David Taylor came off the bench to net 12 points, and Ray Bowles chipped in 10 in the win. The Tigers will play in the tournament again on Friday.

Travis Thompson scored 20 points for the host Alaska-Anchorage (2-4), while Brian McGill added 12 points and eight boards. Derrick Fain also tallied 11 points in the loss.

Pacific came out in the first half and shot 42.3 percent from the floor to take a slight 28-27 advantage into the midway break. UAA shot 34.8 percent on field goal attempts in the same frame.

The Tigers increased their shooting accuracy to 56.5 percent in the second half, and went 15-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Seawolves bumped up to 42.3 percent shooting from the floor, but lost even more ground to the hot- handed Tigers.

Pacific held a 19-14 advantage in made free throws, and held a 39-24 edge in rebounding in the win.
