Akron Zips VS. USC Trojans

Recap: Akron vs. USC

Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Pat Forsythe and Kwan Cheatham Jr. each scored 15 points to power Akron to a 66-46 win over Southern California in the opener of the Charleston Classic.

Noah Robotham added 14 points for the Zips (2-0) who will play Miami- Florida in the second round of the tournament Friday. The Hurricanes defeated Drexel 66-46 on Thursday.

Nikola Jovanovic scored 11 for Southern California (1-2), while Malik Martin added 10.

The Trojans opened the scoring on Martin's layup, but it was just about all Akron from there. Forsythe's layup tied it before Cheatham and Robotham hit consecutive 3-pointers to give the Zips an 8-2 edge.

A Malik triple pulled Southern California within 10-9, but another 8-0 run allowed the Zips to extend the margin and the Trojans never really recovered.

USC made it a four-point game a couple of times in the first half, but Robotham and Cheatham again connected from beyond the arc to give Akron a 30-20 cushion and the Zips went to the break with a 36-24 advantage.

The Trojans got only as close as seven in the second half and trailed by as many as 22.
