Recap: Air Force vs. Colorado State
USAF Academy, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - JJ Avila notched a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds as the Colorado State Rams bested the Air Force Falcons, 92-87, in Mountain West Conference play at Clune Arena.
Avila went 11-of-16 from the field for the Rams (15-2, 2-2 Mountain West), who returned to the win column following back-to-back losses. Stanton Kidd (17 points), Gian Clavell (13) and Joe De Ciman (12) also reached double figures.
Justin Hammonds posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, adding seven assists for the Falcons (8-7, 1-3), who have dropped three of their last four. Max Yon logged 25 points and seven assists, while Marek Olesinski netted 20 points.
The Rams came out firing, shooting 60.6 percent from the field in the first half and holding the opposition to a 36.7 percent mark. They led by a decisive 48-28 score at the break.
In the second half the Falcons' fortunes improved as they shot 57.6 percent from the floor. The visitors dipped to 41.7 percent, but also got to the line for 22-of-30. Though the Falcons pulled as close as three points late in the contest, the Rams never surrendered the lead.
Colorado State crashed the boards a little harder, outrebounding the Falcons 40-30 in the victory.
