The Fray History

Isaac Slade and Joe King formed the Fray in Denver, Colorado, in 2002 after they met while in school. The school they attended was a Christian based school and the influences there and in church helped them to form their musical style. Isaac's younger brother Caleb was added later but eventually left the band, which caused a rift between the brothers. They finally settled on Slade, King, Wysocki on drums and Dave Welsh on lead guitar along with naming the band, The Fray.

In 2002, the band released two EPs to very good reviews but despite the critics praise, they got very little airtime on local radio stations. One Denver area station rejected eight of their songs before finally settling on a demo of "Cable Car," which was showcased on a program that focused on local bands. The radio station got so many requests for the song that the band re-titled the song "Over My Head (Cable Car)" and their airplay increased as did their fan base.

In 2004, the band signed with Epic records and released their first album with them in 2005 called How to Save a Life . The lead single off the album would go on to reach number eight on the Top 100 and was the fifth most downloaded single of 2006. The single of "How to Save a Life" reached even greater notoriety once it was used to promote the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy . After this promotion, the song moved even further up the charts to peak at number three. While the fans loved the album, some critics were not as equally impressed saying the band was too formulaic while others gave it a glowing review.

In 2008, the band released their self-titled album, which included "You Found Me," which turned out to be the band's third song to reach two-million digital downloads. The band went back to the studio in 2011 to work on another album and another special project. The other project will include cover songs from such artists as Annie Lennox, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Marley.
