In 1970, while playing at a mutual gig as members of two different bands, the members of Aerosmith found each other in Boston. Their first official gig together was played at a high school dance in Mendon, Massachusetts. This period also saw Brad Whitford leave the band to pursue a solo project for a brief time and then return.

In 1986, all the band members went through a drug rehab program, cleaned up their act and come back stronger than ever with Back in the Saddle . They continued over the years to not only stay clean from the drug abuse but put out album after album of some of the best rock in history. Along with the multiple album success, they also had a video game designed specifically based on their music called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith . They still perform to this day after over 40 years of being together through the good and bad times and show no sign of slowing down.
