Golden State Warriors History

The Warriors were founded in Philadelphia in 1946 then later joined the NBA in 1949. During their years in Philadelphia, the Warriors won their first NBA Championship in 1956 by beating the Pistons in five games. This was a team that was truly feared by its competitors.

At the end of the decade, more and more games were being moved to the new venue in Oakland causing the team to transition into the Golden State Warriors following the 1970 season.

Once firmly in Oakland, the Warriors went on to win their second NBA title in 1975. They accomplished this feat with the help of players like Rick Barry, Phil Smith, and Jamaal Wilkes. They did not win Western Conference again because the team fell on hard times following the 1970's. This was partially because of mismanagement in the front office, but mainly due to the dominance of the Los Angeles Lakers who were coming into their own in the 80's.
