Since the merger, even the NFC Conference Trophy is called, "the George Halas Trophy," which is awarded to the best team in the NFC who will compete in the Super Bowl.

After the merger in 1970, the Bears took their time to get into the swing of the new league format. By expanding the teams, talent was a little harder to come by and it became much harder to win a championship. However, in 1985, the Bears would answer the call of their fans and bring home the Super Bowl title against the New England Patriots. This team was one of the more colorful and fan favorite clubs in league history with players like "the Refrigerator" Perry, Jim McMahon, and Walter Payton. Since this season, the Bears have played in front of packed house and are one of the toughest tickets in sports to acquire.
