Seattle Seahawks History

Two teams were added to the NFL in 1976 and they were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks. Both of these teams struggled like most expansion teams do when they are first formulated but both would also have their golden periods. The Seattle Seahawks, as a result of the expansion in 1976 and 2002, are one of the few NFL teams to play in both the NFC and the AFC conferences.

When the organization was formed, the Seahawks would have to wait until 1983 before their team made the playoffs. In the 1980's this team made it to the playoffs a few times but could never get through to the Super Bowl. This would be mirrored by the 1990's teams as again they made it to the playoffs only once the entire decade. Some of the more dominant players of this era that were on the Seahawks were Steve Largent and Joey Galloway.

It wasn't until a few years after 2000 that this organization became a major contender in the NFL. Quarterback Matt Hasselback, and running back Sean Alexander helped get this franchise to four consecutive divisional titles between 2004 and 2007. The 2006 Seahawks were the first to ever win the NFC Championship for this team though they were beaten 21-10 in the Super Bowl by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seattle is the host city of two professional sports teams in the major market and these teams are the Seahawks and the Mariners. The Mariners are an AL West team that was pretty dominant in the 1990's thanks to a stellar lineup and pitching rotation. Some of the players on this team were Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Randy Johnson. They posted a major league record for wins in the regular season but failed to make it to the World Series.

This city also used to host a dominant NBA team called the Supersonics. However, they would be moved to Oklahoma City and this city has been left vacant by the NBA.
