Kesha History

Kesha was born Kesha Rose Sebert on March 1st, 1987, in Los Angeles, CA. Her mother's influence on her musical career started very early in that when the family relocated to Nashville, her mother would take her and her younger brother to the studio with her, as she was an established and talented artist in her own right. At the age of 18, she was signed to Kemosabe Entertainment after dropping out of high school and getting her G.E.D. Her first demo had included two tracks, one of which was a thoughtful country ballad and the other a free form rap number. The rap number, while not too well done, was the one that attracted the producer's attention. While much of her time was spent doing studio work in the beginning, she supplemented her income by waitressing.

Her first mainstream exposure came in 2009 when she appeared on Flo Rida's track "Right Round," where she added her vocal talents. While she is on there, she did not receive credit for the U.S. release nor did she receive any monetary compensation. She was also asked to appear on the video for the song and refused citing that she wanted to be seen for her talent and not for her looks. She also cut two more tacks with Flo Rida due to his response to her initial song with him.

Her debut single, "Tik Tok," hit the charts in eleven countries upon its release and sold over 610,000 digital copies. RCA decided that rather than use an advertising push to promote her new album that they would allow her social media following to promote it for them. They offered the song as a digital download for free for one month before releasing it to radio stations for airplay. This tactic worked well and the song reached number one in New Zealand without any radio airplay. By September, her album had sold over 2 million copies along with her appearance on two other Top Ten singles by 3OH!3 and Taio Cruz.
