Tourgasm was the brainchild of Dane Cook and first hit the road in 2005 starring Cook, along with Robert Kelly, Gary Gulman and Jay Davis. The tour was originally scheduled to run for 30 days and appear in 20 cities. The idea behind this tour was not only to perform live but also to give the audience a behind the scenes look at a comedian's life on the road. This was turned into a documentary, which aired on Showtime and was released on DVD.

The comedians were followed by cameras during their entire day and not just when they were actually on stage performing. Part of Cook's regimen when the group got to a new venue was to take the entire ensemble out to do some type of activity together. These activities ranged from a visit to Niagara Falls to riding Segway scooters around the town. He used this not only as a section for the documentary but also as a way to build camaraderie between all the members of the troupe.

Cameras were staged to follow the comedians as the met local residents where they were performing along with backstage and the actual performances. This was very similar to a show that had been done earlier called The Comedians of Comedy , which aired on Showtime and the Comedy Central Network. The main difference between the two shows is that The Comedians of Comedy played mainly in smaller venues, such as nightclubs, where Tourgasm went for larger audiences and played in arena style settings.

While there is not another documentary in the works, the group still tours the country performing. They do this, however, without the aid of Dane Cook on the bill. At one point, Gary Gulman also left the original tour but returned a few dates later to continue. Gary Gulman, Jay Davis, and Robert Kelly continue to tour as Tourgasm to packed houses all around the United States and Canada.
