Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – The Baltimore Orioles reinstated oft-injured second baseman Brian Roberts from the 60-day disabled list prior to Sunday’s finale of a three-game series with the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n
Roberts, who has been limited to just 115 games over the previous three seasons due to various ailments, played in just three contests before rupturing a tendon behind his right knee in a matchup at Tampa Bay on April 4. He underwent surgery to repair the damage shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old proclaimed himself healthy with a four-game rehab stint with Triple-A Norfolk this past week, during which Roberts went 3-for-13 with two walks and a pair of runs scored.<\/p>\n
Roberts, a .280 lifetime hitter who stole 30 or more bases in four straight seasons from 2006-2009, had five hits in 12 at-bats to begin the 2013 campaign prior to getting hurt.<\/p>\n
The Orioles designated pitcher Jair Jurrjens for assignment in a corresponding move.<\/p>\n
Jurrjens, a 14-game winner for Atlanta in 2009 who recorded 13 victories for the Braves two years later, had been recalled from Norfolk prior to Saturday’s game against the Yankees and threw 2 1\/3 scoreless innings in relief in Baltimore’s 11-3 triumph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
