Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) – Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was granted permission to travel with the team by the court, but a restraining order was imposed.<\/p>\n
Varlamov was arrested Wednesday on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges. The kidnapping charge is a Class 4 felony, punishable by two to six years in prison under Colorado statutes; the assault charge is a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old Varlamov turned himself in to police Wednesday evening. He spent the night in jail before he could stand before a judge Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
Varlamov is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, kicking her in the chest and dragging her by the hair.<\/p>\n
A Denver judge set Varlamov’s bond at $5,000.<\/p>\n
“My client is completely innocent of these charges,” Varlamov’s agent, Paul Theofanous, told the Denver Post.<\/p>\n
The Avalanche said in a statement Wednesday that the team “is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation.”<\/p>\n
Varlamov is in his sixth NHL season and third with the Avalanche. He has gone 7-1 this season during the team’s 10-1-0 start.<\/p>\n
