Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Buffalo Bills quarterback Thad Lewis was held out of Wednesday’s practice with a rib injury and is uncertain to be available for the team’s upcoming game against Kansas City.<\/p>\n
Lewis, who has started Buffalo’s last three contests in place of a still- injured E.J. Manuel, bruised his ribs on the opening play from scrimmage in Sunday’s 35-17 loss at New Orleans. The journeyman signal-caller did remain in the game, however, and completed 22-of-39 passes for 234 yards with one touchdown and an interception.<\/p>\n
Head coach Doug Marrone told reporters that Lewis is “50-50” to practice on Thursday. Rookie Jeff Tuel and veteran Matt Flynn each received reps with the first-team offense on Wednesday with Lewis sidelined.<\/p>\n
Manuel, who sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee at Cleveland on Oct. 3, is not expected to return until the Bills’ Week 12 bye at the earliest.<\/p>\n
Lewis has performed capably since being elevated from the practice squad into a starting role, with the undrafted Duke product having completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 652 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions over his three starts.<\/p>\n
Two other key offensive contributors, running back Fred Jackson (knee) and wide receiver Stevie Johnson (hip), also did not participate in Wednesday’s session.<\/p>\n
On a positive note, running back C.J. Spiller was a limited participant on Wednesday. The fourth-year speedster was inactive for the New Orleans game due to a sprained ankle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
