{"id":5899,"date":"2013-10-04T11:14:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T11:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.stub.com\/hq\/news\/nets-coach-kidd-hit-with-two-game-ban\/"},"modified":"2013-10-31T03:30:06","modified_gmt":"2013-10-31T03:30:06","slug":"nets-coach-kidd-hit-with-two-game-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/nets-coach-kidd-hit-with-two-game-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Nets coach Kidd hit with two-game ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd has been suspended for the first two games of the 2013-14 season after pleading guilty to a drunk driving charge, the NBA announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2012, Kidd was arrested by Southampton Town police and charged with a misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated.<\/p>\n<p>Kidd will miss the team&#8217;s regular-season opener on Oct. 30 in Cleveland and its home opener Nov. 1 against Miami. He will make his regular-season coaching debut Nov. 3 in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The decision is consistent with what the league has done in the past and we look forward to Jason leading our team versus Orlando and the rest of the year,&#8221; Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Nets hired Kidd as their coach in June, and a month later he pleaded guilty and was placed on interim probation.<\/p>\n<p>The 40-year-old 10-time All-Star captained the Nets to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. He played in 506 games over 6 1\/2 seasons with the team, which was then based in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Kidd also played for the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks during his 19-year career as a player in the NBA.
