San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a torn medial meniscus in his left knee, the team has announced.

Headley, the National League’s leader with 115 RBI in 2012, was plagued by several injuries that limited him to 13 home runs, 50 RBI and a .250 average over 141 games this past season. The 29-year-old put up 31 homers while batting .286 during a breakthrough 2012 season in which he also won a Gold Glove and placed fifth in the NL MVP voting.

Headley, who will entering his final arbitration-eligible season in 2014, is expected to be sidelined from 4-to-6 weeks and should be ready for spring training.
