County Antrim, Northern Ireland (Sports Network) – Daan Huizing birdied the first playoff hole on Sunday to top Oliver Wilson and win the Northern Ireland Open Challenge.<\/p>\n
Huizing entered the final round with a 6-shot lead, but tripped to a 3-over 74 in the windy conditions at Galgorm Castle Golf Club to finish at 13-under-par 271.<\/p>\n
Wilson shot a 4-under 67 to meet him there.<\/p>\n
Huizing gave his early advantage away with an outward 39 that included bogeys at the third, fourth, sixth and ninth.<\/p>\n
He regained some cushion with birdies at the 12th and 14th, but tripped to a bogey at the last after being forced to take a provisional following an errant drive to necessitate the playoff.<\/p>\n
Wilson, meanwhile, countered his lone bogey of the day with five birdies to join Huizing at 13-under.<\/p>\n
On the playoff hole, Wilson hit his drive into a bunker, while Huizing split the fairway and found the green with his second.<\/p>\n
After Wilson failed to convert his birdie effort, Huizing was able to calmly 2-putt for the win, earning the Dutchman his first career win on the European Challenge Tour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
