Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – The New York Yankees activated shortstop Derek Jeter from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday’s opener of a three-game set in Toronto against the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n
Jeter’s latest trip to the DL, his third this season, stemmed from a right calf strain and lingering soreness in his quad that forced him to the DL back on Aug. 3.<\/p>\n
The Yankee captain has played in just five games this season due to various leg ailments. He was sidelined for more than three months by a fractured ankle he suffered during the ALCS, then injured his right quadriceps in his return to action during a July 11 matchup against Kansas City.<\/p>\n
The veteran shortstop sat out more than two weeks with that ailment before re- joining the team on July 28, but missed the final two games of New York’s series at San Diego before heading to the disabled list.<\/p>\n
In 19 at-bats over his five games this season, Jeter has collected four hits — including a homer — while knocking in two runs and scoring three times.<\/p>\n
To make room for Jeter on the roster, New York optioned pitcher Preston Claiborne to Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre.<\/p>\n
Claiborne made his major league debut with New York on May 5 and has appeared in 37 games this season, compiling an 0-1 record with a 2.78 earned run average.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
