Sydney, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) – Anthony Brown birdied the second playoff hole to defeat Josh Geary and win the Mazda NSW Open on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The victory was Brown’s first on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He closed with a 3-under 69 at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club to post 14-under-par 274. Josh Geary, who shared the lead entering the final round, managed an even-par 72 to force a playoff.<\/p>\n
Brown, who was in the penultimate group, birdied the first, but gave that shot back when he bogeyed the third. He parred the final six holes of the front nine.<\/p>\n
Around the turn, Brown birdied the 10th, 14th and 15th to move to 14-under. After tripping to a bogey at the par-3 16th, Brown birdied the last to get in first at minus-14.<\/p>\n
Geary has two birdies and a bogey on the front nine. He bogeyed the 10th to slip to even-par for his round. Geary traded a bogey for a birdie from the 14th and again from the 17th to force the extra session.<\/p>\n
James Nitties, who shared the third-round lead with Geary, had three birdies and two bogeys on the front side before mixing three birdies and three bogeys with a double-bogey on the back nine. His 1-over 73 left him one shot back at minus-13.<\/p>\n
Amateur Gunn Yang closed with an even-par 72 to end alone in fourth place at 12-under-par 276. Rohan Blizard (69), Michael Long (70) and Matthew Giles (72) shared fifth place at minus-10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
