St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) – The Minnesota Wild moved to lock up another of their young core on Wednesday, agreeing to terms with center Charlie Coyle on a five-year contract extension.<\/p>\n
No financial terms were disclosed by the club, but the Minneapolis Star- Tribune reported it is worth $16 million for the duration with an average annual value of $3.2 million. Coyle was due to be a restricted free agent in July.<\/p>\n
“We’re very excited to get Charlie Coyle signed through the 2019-20 season,” said Wild GM Chuck Fletcher. “Charlie’s size, overall skill set, and character give him a chance to emerge as a top power forward in the game and we’re happy he will be doing that in the State of Hockey for years to come.”<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old native of the Boston suburbs and Boston University product has picked up a goal and assist in four games with the Wild this season, his third NHL campaign.<\/p>\n
In 111 career appearances, Coyle has totaled 21 goals and 25 assists.<\/p>\n
It’s the third big splurge for Fletcher, who inked defenseman Jonas Brodin to a $25 million, 6-year extension 10 days ago and signed forward Nino Niederreiter to an $8 million deal for three years in the offseason.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
