Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – San Francisco 49ers nose tackle Glenn Dorsey will be sidelined for at least the first half of the 2014 season after being placed on injured reserve as the team’s designated to return player.<\/p>\n
Dorsey, a 13-game starter for the NFC Championship Game participant 49ers last season, reportedly tore his biceps during a practice session early in training camp.<\/p>\n
As a designated to return player, the former Kansas City first-round pick can resume practicing after six weeks have passed in the regular season and can be activated following Week 9.<\/p>\n
Dorsey will be the third key defender for San Francisco to be on the sidelines at the beginning of the season. All-Pro inside linebacker NaVarro Bowman is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in January’s NFC title game, while standout pass rusher Aldon Smith was handed a nine-game suspension last week for violations of the league’s substance abuse and personal conduct policy.<\/p>\n
Wide receiver and special-teams ace Kassim Osgood was re-signed by the Niners to fill the available roster spot, three days after the 11-year veteran was released by the team at final cuts.<\/p>\n
