Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) – Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Paul George suffered a gruesome leg injury during a USA Basketball team scrimmage Friday night.<\/p>\n
USA Basketball said George underwent surgery for a compound fracture at a Las Vegas hospital. He sustained an open tibia-fibula fracture and will remain hospitalized for approximately three days.<\/p>\n
George’s right leg appeared to snap above the ankle as it jammed against the padded stanchion and the court beneath the basket after he jumped in an attempt to block a James Harden layup.<\/p>\n
George remained on his back for several minutes in obvious pain before his leg was put in splint and he was wheeled off the court on a stretcher as teammates stood around him.<\/p>\n
Moments later, USA Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski grabbed a microphone and announced to the crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center that the scrimmage was over.<\/p>\n
“With the serious injury that we had and the fact that we stopped playing for a long period of time, and out of respect for Paul and his family, the scrimmage is done,” Krzyzewski said.<\/p>\n
George, 24, has been an All-Star each of the last two years. He averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 80 games this past season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
