Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Forwards Paul Byron and T.J. Galiardi were among five Calgary Flames players that did not receive qualifying offers from the team at Monday’s deadline.<\/p>\n
The Flames also announced Monday that defenseman Shane O’Brien was placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of having the remainder of his contract bought out.<\/p>\n
Byron posted seven goals, 14 assists and a plus-six rating over 47 games with the Flames last season. Galiardi, a six-year NHL veteran, skated in 62 contests in 2013-14 and recorded four goals and 13 assists.<\/p>\n
Both players will now become unrestricted free agents when the NHL’s signing period begins Tuesday.<\/p>\n
O’Brien was entering the final season of a three-year, $6 million deal he signed in June of 2012, while then with Colorado. The 30-year-old was traded to the Flames by the Avalanche last summer, but spent much of the season in the minors.<\/p>\n
Calgary also declined qualifying offers to forward David Eddy, defenseman James Martin and goaltender Olivier Roy.<\/p>\n
Forwards Lance Bouma, Joe Colborne, Ben Hanowski and defensemen Mark Cundari and Chad Billins were all given restricted free agent tenders, as was goaltender Joni Ortio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
